Kyra definitely keeps us on our toes!
The other day Kyra wanted to go and play outside. Since we had places to go later that day and I did not want her to get too dirty I said that she could, but I did not want her to play in the sandbox.
After letting her out into the backyard I finished up some dishes then went to check on her. The lid to her sandbox was moved aside and she was sitting next to the box playing happily with the sand. Frowning, I told Kyra that she would have to come inside as she had disobeyed mommy by playing in the sandbox.
With a completely earnest expression Kyra said, "But Mommy, I was playing OUTSIDE the sandbox, not IN it!"
Stifling a smile, I explained to Kyra that I had not wanted her to play with the sand at all because she would get dirty. However - her logic had been right... She did not get IN the sandbox, she sat next to it. :) I will have to remember to be more literal in the future.
Another day we were in our bedroom, and Kyra walked over to the beside table. There is a candle there that she insists that she needs to smell every time she comes in the room. Her reason, however, is quite unique. She, very seriously, informed us - "I have to smell this candle because my breath is bad."
So the next time you find yourself wishing for fresher breath - don't reach for gum or mints, just find the nearest sweet-smelling candle and sniff the bad-breath away!
Father's Day weekend was a fun time for Kyra and her Daddy. On Saturday I had meetings at church, so Kyra and Brad had a "Daddy-Daughter Date". Their morning began with cartoons and pop-tarts - her favorite cartoon is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and I think she has the opening and closing songs memorized. :) Then they went to a local pet store, not to purchase a pet but to visit the animals. Kyra loves watching the fish, and is facinated by the large talking parrot that always greets her with a "hello!" She is confused, however, as to why it won't continue the conversation when she tries to talk to it. For lunch, they went to Wendy's where Kyra had fun dipping french fries in her junior frosty. Daddy was glad he had gotten Kyra her own frosty instead of sharing as he watched her dip a ketchup-laden fry into her chocolate frosty. Ew! :)
Kyra's nightime rituals have always involved the usual: tooth-brushing, story time, prayers, and hugs and kisses goodnight. Recently, however, a new tradition is evolving. A nightly game of "Hide and Scare Kyra!" Kyra loves to have daddy hide and jump out to scare her - she screams then tells him to go hide again. She is even learning to get in on the act, roaring at daddy to scare him away. :) The fun always ends with giggles and hugs before we settle down to read our nightime stories, say our prayers, and tuck a tired, happy little girl into bed.
Kyra is at such a fun and interesting age, and she continues to surprise us daily with the things she notices and comes up with. For example, today at church Kyra saw an SUV and told daddy that it looked like mommy's car (which is a four-door sedan). Confused, Brad asked her how it looked like mommy's car. Kyra pointed to the Hyundai brand insignia in the center of the wheel and repeated that it looked like mommy's car. We could not believe that she would remember even the insignia of the cars we drive!
We have been working on several projects around the house, and recently had a contractor come in to complete some of them. First, they hooked up the water line to our refrigerator. It is SO nice to have a working ice-maker again. They also converted the water supply to the basement toilet to city water instead of the well. This has made a huge difference in the cleanliness of the toilet - as the well-water made it look rusty all the time. The largest project was adding a shower and new tub and shower surround in the hall bathroom. Once the installation was complete we painted the walls a steel-grey color to match the bathroom set we picked out. We also purchased a new light fixture, towel bars and toilet paper holder that we still need to install. We have begun changing out a lot of the old door knobs with matching ones that function better. While at Lowes the other day we also found a new light fixture for Kyra's bedroom. It was on clearance and was the floor model so it was $100 off the original price, and is a large fixture with crystal flowers that will match the decor of her room well.
We have purchased a lot of things that we need to install - and want to get all of those things put in before we start any new projects. :)
